John-Peter Amewu, the outgoing Member of Parliament (MP) for the Hohoe Constituency in Ghana’s Volta Region, has delivered a heartfelt message of gratitude and hope following his defeat in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
In a statement issued shortly after the results were announced, Mr. Amewu confirmed he had personally congratulated the newly elected MP, Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), on his victory.
Amewu, who represented the New Patriotic Party (NPP), urged his supporters to see the loss not as an end but as an opportunity to reignite their passion for the party and its vision for the future.
“Let us not view this as the conclusion of our political journey. Instead, it marks the beginning of a new chapter filled with renewed determination and purpose. The energy and commitment we’ve shown must continue to guide us forward. Together, we can still achieve a brighter future,” he stated.
As the Minister of Railway Development, Amewu made history in 2020 by becoming the first NPP MP to win the Hohoe seat, traditionally an NDC stronghold. However, the constituency has now returned to the NDC, signifying a shift in the area’s political dynamics.
Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo, the NDC candidate, has taken over as the newly elected MP for the Hohoe Constituency.
Despite the outcome, Amewu expressed profound appreciation to his constituents for the opportunity to serve and pledged to continue contributing to the community’s development.
“This is not the end,” he reassured his supporters, emphasizing his belief in the resilience and potential of the NPP in Hohoe.
