Hansi Flick’s Barcelona pulled off a dramatic comeback against title rivals Atletico Madrid, scoring four goals in the final 20 minutes to overturn a two-goal deficit and secure a crucial victory.
Coming into the match in dominant form, Barcelona had collected 19 of 21 possible points in the second half of the season, with their last defeat coming against Atletico in the first leg. A win was vital to keep them at the top of the La Liga table alongside Real Madrid, and they delivered in spectacular fashion.
Match Breakdown
The first half was a cagey affair, with both teams cautious in their approach. However, just before halftime, Julian Alvarez finished off a well-worked move to put Atletico in front.
Barcelona pressed for an equalizer, but Diego Simeone’s men struck again, this time through Alexander Sørloth. The Norwegian, assisted by Conor Gallagher, doubled Atletico’s advantage, putting them in firm control.
But Barcelona refused to back down. Robert Lewandowski, La Liga’s top scorer, pulled one back in the 72nd minute with his 22nd goal of the season. Just six minutes later, Ferran Torres headed in a Raphinha cross to level the score, setting the stage for an intense finish.
With the game heading toward a draw, teenage sensation Lamine Yamal took matters into his own hands, firing a long-range shot that deflected off Reinildo and into the net in stoppage time. Torres then sealed the victory with the final kick of the match.
Barcelona now sits at the top of the La Liga standings with 60 points, level with Real Madrid, who have played one game more. Atletico Madrid remains third with 56 points.
